Roddy Mckenzie was born in Prestwick. He studied at Glasgow School of Art from 1978 to 1982 emerging with a BA (Hons) degree in fine art. Although his initial interest was in painting and drawing, he studied sculpture at Glasgow, returning to painting full time on graduation.
Living by the shore at Croy it is mainly seascapes which occupy his time now, as well as occasional art classes and running the gallery/studio.
Roddy`s work has taken him throughout the British Isles, Europe and America but he has now settled back in rural Ayrshire. Returning to Burns` country has inspired him greatly and he is now producing some of his most innovative and exciting works. Roddy prefers to paint his seascapes (and landscapes) `en plein air` usually oil on canvas with brush and knife, a style of work which requires speed and accuracy.
