Rosemary shot to fame in 1984 whilst still a student at the Glasgow School of Art when, at the age of 20, she won the National Portrait Gallery’s highly prestigious National Portrait Award with a 5 foot oil canvas of her partner Paul.
Beaton was the first Scottish recipient of the UK award and the youngest ever to win the prize.
